UNIT 3, Bsc, The Bartlett
Unit 3 engages with extreme environments, social, artificial and natural, not as a venture into the
exceptional, but as a way of reflecting into everyday challenges, present or immediate. It is our understanding that the built environment can only “survive” as an integrated part of the context, and this premise becomes unavoidable, when venturing into an extreme surrounding.
As part of this philosophy during the first semester, students design, build, test, and during our expeditions, inhabit their own shelters, while surveying the environment to define the thesis of their building program.
